| 설명 | 가운데 귀 즉 중이는 귀인두관과 연결되어 있다. 이 관의 모양이 성인에서는 휘어져 있고 관이 좁아서 막히는 경우가 드문 편이나, 소아에서는 평행으로 되어 있으며 곧고 바로 입안과 연결되어 있어 막히는 경우가 흔하다. 이렇게 관이 막히는 경우 가운데귀에는 장액으로 차게 되어 중이염이 발생할 수 있는데 이를 장액성중이염이라고 한다. 이에 비해 병균이 침입하여 고름집을 이루며, 염증반응과 가운데귀파괴가 심한 경우를 화농성중이염이라고 한다. |

| 설명 | Rubella, 또는 '3일 홍역'이라고 불리는 이 병은 풍진바이러스의 감염에 의한 병으로 주로 소아기에 흔한 질병이다. 전염성이 아주 강하고 성인기에 걸렸을 경우에는 일반적으로 소아기때보다 증상이 심하다. 풍진바이러스인 Togaviridae family의 Rubivirus라는 종에 의하여 생긴다. 전염방식은 기침이나 재채기 또는 말할 때 튀어 나오는 침에 섞여 있는 작은 바이러스 입자로 전파된다. 임신부가 풍진에 감염되면 태반을 통하여 태아에 전염된다. 잠복기는 14~21일(대개 17일) 증상은 그 특징에 따라서 전구기와 발진기로 나눈다. |

| 설명 | 주로 호흡기계와 그물내피계를 침범하는 고도의 전염성이 있는 바이러스 감염. 전구기 또는 발진초기의 환자에서 유래된 작은 물방울중의 바이러스를 흡입한 지, 약 8일 후에 3~5일간의 전구증이 시작된다. 코감기, 목림프절염, 코풀릭반점(Koplik spot(입안 뺨쪽 구강점막의 특징적인 병터. 이것을 보면 홍역으로 진단가능함), 눈꺼풀결막염, 근육통, 쇄약, 꾸준히 상승하는 열과 심한 기침이 피부 발진에 선행한다. 피부에는 붉은 구진이 귀뒤나 얼굴에 먼저 나타나고 급속히 몸통과 사지에 퍼진다. 구진은 이산되어 있으나 점차 더욱 융합된다. 환부는 편평하게 되고 갈색으로 변하며 제 6일경에 비늘처럼 떨어진다. 이 시기에 체온이 정상으로 돌아온다. 세균성폐렴, 중이염, 뇌막염을 합병하는 수가 있다. 사망률은 홍역 자체의 심한 정도, 합병증 등에 따라 다르다. |
