| 설명 | 말을 바르게 발음하지 못하거나 정확하게 이해하지 못하는 병증. 교통수단으로서의 언어로 정보를 전달하는데 있어서의 장애이다. 언어를 이해, 표출하는 생리학적, 심리학적, 언어학적, 물리학적, 사회학적인 각 과정에서의 질병이나 장애로 인해 일어나며 그 원인이나 병태에 따라 구음장애, 말더듬, 음성장애, 언어발달지체, 청력장애, 선천기형 등 많은 질병, 장애로 세분된다. 원인 및 병태의 검사, 진단에는 내과, 이비인후과, 정신과, 치과 등 여러 과목에 걸쳐 정밀조사를 함과 동시에 언어기능검사를 해야 한다. |

| 설명 | 자궁이란 태아가 수태되어서 분만전까지 발육하고 성장하는 공간이다. 자궁속에 병변이 있어 임신이 계속될 수 없거나 아니면 다른 이유로 임신되어 있는 태아를 제거하고자 할 경우에 사용되는 방법이다. 여기서 긁어내기 위하여는 우선 자궁의 입구에 해당하는 자궁목을 확장시켜야 한다. 여기에는 급속히 확장을 시도하는 법과 서서히 확장을 시도하는 2가지 방법이 있다. 자궁목을 급속히 확장할 때는 헤가르 목관확장기(Hegar's dilatator)를 사용한다. 이것은 작은 금속막대로 작은 크기부터 큰 크기까지 다양한 크기가 있어서 우선 작은 막대로 시작하여 점점 큰 크기의 막대를 자궁목에 넣어서 자궁목을 확장시킨다. 서서히 확장시킬 때는 Laminaria tent를 목관에 삽입하는 방법을 사용한다. Laminaria tent란 해초로 만든 작은 막대로 수분을 흡수하면 점점 늘어나는 성질이 있다. 이것을 자궁의 목에 넣으면 이것이 수분을 흡수하여 늘어나므로 천천히 자궁의 목이 늘어난다. 자궁목이 충분히 늘어나면 그 속으로 끝이 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 넣어서 자궁속의 병변이나 임신된 태아를 긁어내는데 여기에 사용되는 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 큐렛이라고 한다. 초기 임신중절 즉 유산과 같은 임신과 관련된 경우뿐만 아니라, 비임신 자궁의 자궁내막조직의 채취 및 제거를 위해서도 행해지는 수기이다. 이는 원칙적으로 마취하에 실시되는 것으로 자궁목관을 확장하고 기구로 자궁 내용물을 제거하고 큐렛으로 자궁내벽을 깨끗이 한다. 자궁천공이나 자궁목의 파열 등의 위험이 따르며, 수술후 감염 또는 출혈 등에 대한 주의가 필요하다. |

| 설명 | 언어의 생성과 이해를 관장하는 대뇌겉질의 특정한 부위. 인간의 특징인 언어는 특정한 상대와 마음의 내용을 서로 전하기 위해 쓰는 소리이다. 상대방으로부터 들은 소리를 의미가 있는 언어로 이해하고 마음의 내용에 대응하는 언어를 소리로 내는 얼개를 영위하는 곳이 언어중추이다. 대뇌반구의 표층에 있는 대뇌겉질에 세 개의 언어중추가 있다. 여기에 관여하는 대뇌겉질의 영역을 언어야(speech area)라 한다. 이 영역은 통상적으로 왼쪽대뇌 반구에 있다. 주요 영역으로는 운동성 언어중추(브로카 중추)와 감각성 언어중추(워니케 중추)가 있다. 언어야가 손상되면 실어증이 생긴다. 운동성 언어중추의 장애가 있는 사람은 이야기나 써있는 글자는 잘 이해하지만 자발적으로 말을 잘할 수는 없다. 이것을 운동성 실어증이라 한다. 감각성 언어중추의 장애가 있는 사람은 청각은 정상적임에도 불구하고 말하는 언어나 쓰여진 문자의 의미를 알 수 없게 된다. 이것을 감각성 실어증이라 한다. |

| 설명 | 어떤 범위의 주파수의 음파가 청각기를 자극하여 생기는 감각. 음파의 주파수는 20Hz에서 2만 Hz(1Hz는 매초 1사이클)까지이고, 청각기관은 바깥귀-가운데귀-속귀로 구분된다. 청각 수용기는 속귀의 달팽이관에 있고, 바깥귀 및 가운데귀는 음을 속귀에 전달하는 전음기傳音器이다. 바깥귀는 귓바퀴와 바깥귀길로 이루어져 있으며, 고막이 가운데귀와의 경계를 이룬다. 가운데귀는 망치뼈-모루뼈-등자뼈라고 하는 세 개의 귓속뼈가 있어 고막의 진동을 달팽이관의 안뜰창에 전달한다. 이 때 음파의 진폭은 감쇠되지만 음압은 약 20배로 증강된다. 달팽이관은 조개껍데기의 나사 모양의 골관이며, 횡단면에서는 기저막과 안뜰막에 의해 세 방으로 나누어진다. 양막으로 둘러싸인 부분이 달팽이관인데 내림프로 가득 차 있고, 그 위에 있는 안뜰계와 밑에 있는 고실계는 외림프로 가득 차 있다. 기저막 위에는 털세포가 배열되어 있다. 안뜰창에 전달된 음파는 안뜰계의 외림프를 통해서 달팽이세관의 내림프로 전해지고 끝에 가서는 기저막 위에 털세포에 진동자극을 주게 된다. 털세포가 흥분하면 여기에 부착해 있는 달팽이관신경으로 충동이 발사된다. 달팽이관 신경은 제8뇌신경의 일부로서 숨뇌에 들어가 숨뇌의 올리브핵, 중간뇌의 아래언덕, 안쪽무릎체에 의해서 연접전달을 하여 대뇌겉질 관자엽의 청각부에 이르러 청각을 발생시킨다. |
