a rare chronic disorder of keratinization characterized by a papular eruption with hyperkeratotic cone-shaped plugs in the hair follicles and eccrine ducts, which project through the epidermis into the dermis, producing a foreign body giant cell reaction and pain. The usually discrete lesions leave a depression on removal; they may coalesce to form patches, and coalescing plaques are often seen. Called also hyperkeratosis penetrans.
