| 설명 | 약간 딱딱하고 휘어지는 성질을 가진 특별한 조직을 이르는 말. 귀, 코 등 신체의 휘어질 수 있는 부분을 이루고 있으며, 관절에 존재하여 충격을 완충하는 역할을 한다. 어린이에게서는 뼈의 말단에 존재하며 뼈를 생성하여 뼈를 성장하게 하는 역할도 한다. 연골은 그 특성에 따라서 유리연골(hyaline cartilage), 탄성연골(elastic cartilage), 섬유연골(fibrocartilage)의 3가지로 나눈다. 유리연골은 가장 흔한 형태의 연골로 코의 중격이나 대부분의 관절에 존재한다. 약간 탄성이 있으며 약간 투명하고 푸른빛이 돈다. 탄성연골은 탄력성이 아주 좋은 연골로 귀 등을 이루고 있다. 노란빛을 띠고 불투명하다. 섬유연골은 연골과 섬유성 조직의 중간형태의 연골로 거의 탄성이 없고 척추사이의 척추간원반(intervertebral disc) 등 몇몇의 관절에 존재한다. |

| Jacobson's canal | A minute canal passing from the inferior surface of the petrous portion of the temporal bone between the jugular fossa and carotid canal to the floor of the tympanic cavity. | Jacobson's nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A nerve from the inferior ganglion of the glossopharyngeal nerve, passing through the tympanic canaliculus to the tympanic cavity, forming there the tympanic plexus which supplies the mucous membrane of the tympanic cavity, mastoid cells, and auditory tube; presynaptic parasympathetic fibres also pass through the tympanic nerve via the lesser superficial petrosal nerve to the otic ganglion, where they synapse with postsynaptic fibres that continue to supply the parotid gland. | Jacobson's organ | A specialised part of the olfactory system located anteriorly in the nasal cavity within the nasal septum. Chemosensitive cells of the vomeronasal organ project via the vomeronasal nerve to the accessory olfactory bulb. The primary function of this organ appears to be in sensing pheromones which regulate reproductive and other social behaviours.
