| medially deviated ureter | <radiology> Retroperitoneal fibrosis, pelvic lipomatosis, abdomino-perineal resection, retrocaval ureter, normal variant (12 Dec 1998) |
| pelvic part of ureter | The part of the ureter between the brim of the pelvis and the urinary bladder; the upper pelvic portion of the embryologic urogenital sinus. Synonym: pars pelvina ureteris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| retrocaval ureter | <radiology> Ureter courses behind and medial to IVC, with or without ureteral obstruction subcardinal vein, IVC usually formed from supracardinal veins (12 Dec 1998) |
| retroiliac ureter | Congenital defect where the ureter passes deep to the iliac artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| mucosa of ureter | The inner layer of the ureter. Synonym: tunica mucosa ureteris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| constrictions of ureter | Normal physiological narrowings of the ureter observable in a pyelogram; the uppermost occurs at the origin of the ureter from the renal pelvis; a second occurs as the ureter crosses the iliac vessels and pelvic brim; the inferiormost occurs as the ureter penetrates the wall of the urinary bladder. (05 Mar 2000) |
| muscular coat of ureter | Muscular layer of the ureteric wall. Synonym: tunica muscularis ureteris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| postcaval ureter | Congenital defect where the right ureter passes deep to the inferior vena cava on its descent to the bladder. (05 Mar 2000) |
| curlicue ureter | Term given to the radiographic appearance of an opacified ureter, herniated through the sciatic foramen; a very rare condition. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ectopic ureter | Opens somewhere other than the bladder wall. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ureter | The tube passing from each kidney to the bladder for the conveyance of urine. Its average length is 25 to 30 centimetres. (27 Sep 1997) |
| abbreviated injury scale | Classification system for assessing impact injury severity developed and published by the american association for automotive medicine. It is the system of choice for coding single injuries and is the foundation for methods assessing multiple injuries or for assessing cumulative effects of more than one injury. These include maximum ais (mais), injury severity score (iss), and probability of death score (pods). (12 Dec 1998) |
| axillary nerve injury | <neurology> A condition involving dysfunction of the axillary nerve which normally supplies the deltoid and teres minor muscles and sensation to the lateral aspect of the shoulder. This condition is a type of peripheral neuropathy that may manifest as the result of a variety of disease processes or injuries. Conditions associated with axillary nerve dysfunction include mononeuritis multiplex, fracture of the humerus, abduction injury to the shoulder, pressure to the armpit from a cast, splint or crutches. Symptoms include numbness over the outer portion of the shoulder, shoulder weakness and difficulty lifting arm or objects over your head. An EMG, nerve conduction study or muscle biopsy can be helpful in making the diagnosis. Recovery is generally spontaneous if the underlying cause can be corrected and shoulder mobility is preserved. Corticosteroid injections may be indicated in some instances. (02 Jan 1998) |
| blast injury | Tearing of lung tissue or rupture of abdominal viscera without external injury, as by the force of an explosion. (05 Mar 2000) |
