| Virchow-Hassall bodies | Small spherical bodies of keratinised and usually squamous epithelial cells arranged in a concentric pattern around clusters of degenerating lymphocytes, eosinophils, and macrophages; found in the medulla of the lobules of the thymus. Synonym: Hassall's bodies, Hassall's concentric corpuscle, Virchow-Hassall bodies. (05 Mar 2000) |

| Hassall | Arthur, British physician, 1817-1894. See: Hassall's bodies, Hassall's concentric corpuscle, Hassall-Henle bodies, Virchow-Hassall bodies. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Hassall-Henle bodies | Hyaline body's on the posterior surface of Descemet's membrane at the periphery of the cornea. Synonym: Henle's warts. (05 Mar 2000) |

Synonym: Hassall's bodies, Hassall's concentric corpuscle, Virchow-Hassall bodies. (05 Mar 2000) |
| articular corpuscles | Encapsulated nerve terminations within joint capsules. Synonym: corpuscula articularia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| bulboid corpuscles | Nerve terminals in skin, mouth, conjunctiva, and other parts, consisting of a laminated capsule of connective tissue enclosing the terminal, branched, convoluted ending of an afferent nerve fibre; generally believed to be sensitive to cold. Synonym: corpuscula bulboidea, bulboid corpuscles. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pacchionian corpuscles | Tufted prolongations of pia-arachnoid, composed of numerous arachnoid villi that penetrate dural venous sinuses and effect transfer of cerebrospinal fluid to the venous system. at advanced age these are more numerous and tend to calcify. Synonym: granulationes arachnoideales, arachnoidal granulations, pacchionian bodies, pacchionian corpuscles, pacchionian glands, pacchionian granulations. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pacinian corpuscles | Rapidly adapting mechanoreceptors found in subcutaneous tissue beneath both hairy and glabrous skin. Pacinian corpuscles contain an afferent nerve fibre surrounded by a capsule with multiple concentric layers. They have large receptive fields and are most sensitive to high-frequency stimuli, such as vibration. (12 Dec 1998) |
| Valentin's corpuscles | Small bodies, probably amyloid, found occasionally in nerve tissue. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Rainey's corpuscles | Rounded, ovoidal, or sickle-shaped spores or bradyzoites, 12 to 16 by 4 to 9 um, found within the elongated cysts (Miescher's tubes) of the protozoan Sarcocystis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| Vater-Pacini corpuscles | Small oval bodies in the skin of the fingers, in the mesentery, tendons, and elsewhere, formed of concentric layers of connective tissue with a soft core in which the axon of a nerve fibre runs, splitting up into a number of fibrils that terminate in bulbous enlargements; they are sensitive to pressure. Synonym: corpuscula lamellosa, pacinian corpuscles, Vater's corpuscles, Vater-Pacini corpuscles. (05 Mar 2000) |
