| 설명 | 생물체가 끊임없이 외적 및 내적 환경의 변화를 받으면서도 개체로서의 생리적 상태를 안정된 상태로 유지하는 기능. 동적 평형이라고도 한다. 프랑스의 C. 베르나르가 체액의 상태는 환경이 변화하여도 일정하게 유지되는 조절능이 있다고 발표하였는데, 미국의 W.B. 캐논은 이 생각을 더 발전시며 정온동물의 체온의 항상성과 생물의 방어 수단에도 적용시켰다. 예를 들면 혈액 속에 있는 단백질이나 당질 등은 식사의 종류에 거의 영향을 받지 않고 대개 일정한 값을 유지한다. 이와 같은 체내의 안정된 상태를 단순한 물리화학적 평형상태와 구별하기 위하여 설정한 개념이며, 신체의 모든 장기(소화기-순환기-호흡기 등) 의 협조에 의하여 얻어지는데, 그 전체적인 조절은 자율신경계와 내분비계에 의하여 이루어진다. 예를 들면 체온은 자율신경의 작용에 의하여 우리의 의식과는 관계없이 자동적으로 조절된다. 체온 외에도 혈압이나 세포외액의 삼투압, pH, 혈당치 등이 항상 일정하게 유지되고 있다. 자동제어의 능력이 증가함으로써 생물은 그만큼 외부 환경의 영향으로부터 독립한 자유성을 증가시킬 수가 있다. 이러한 개념은 원래 고등동물의 생리학적인 현상을 이해하기 위하여 만들어진 것인데, 그 후 생태학-유전학-발생학 등에도 확대하여 사용되고 있다. |
