| 설명 | 첫째로 디에틸에테르의 약칭이며, 둘째로 산소원자에 2개의 탄화수소기(-R로 표기한다)가 결합된 유기화합물 R-O-R의 총칭이다. 의학영역에서 단순히 에테르라 하는 경우에는 전자인 경우가 많아 전자에 대해 기술한다. 에테르는 19세기 중엽에 외과수술을 할 때 최초의 마취제로서 처음 사용되었다. 에테르가 마취작용을 나타내는 메커니즘에 대해서는 지금도 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 작용점은 중추신경계라고 여겨지고 있다. 또한 에테르는 강한 근육이완작용을 지녔는데, 이것은 에테르가 중추신경계 및 신경－근육 접합부 등의 말초 부위에 작용하는 결과이다. 심장에의 독성은 적고 호흡을 촉진하며 중추신경계를 통해 구역이나 구토를 초래한다. 또한 콩팥의 혈관을 수축시키므로 소변량이 감소한다. 간에서의 독성은 낮지만 간기능을 억제하는 작용이 있다. 혈액의 응고를 저해하는 작용은 없다. 체내에 흡수된 에테르의 90% 이상은 대사되지 않은 채 호기로 배설된다. |
