The primary use of ethambutol is to prevent the emergence of resistance to other drugs. The daily dose in the first 2 months of chemotherapy is 25 mg/kg in adults and 15 mg/kg in children; when the drug is given for more than 2 months, the dose should be reduced to 15 mg/kg/day.
