| Diocles of Carystus |
a fourth century B.C. Greek physician and anatomist, a contemporary and student of Aristotle. Diocles was a founder of the Dogmatist school; he studied embryology, gynecology, and obstetrics, and he also performed animal dissections (e.g., on the womb of a mule).
