| 설명 | 우울한 감정과 허무감, 절망감, 정신적 행위와 운동능력의 지연 및 그외 많은 신체적 증상을 나타내는 병. 오래 전부터 기술되어 왔으며 중세 이후 계속적으로 병으로 인식되어 왔다. 대개 남자의 2~3%, 여자의 5~9%에서 우울증이 생기며, 평생동안 남자의 10%, 여자의 23% 정도에서 이병이 생긴다고 한다. 전체적으로 남자보다 여자에게 약 2배 많으며, 연령적으로는 20~30대에 비교적 흔한 것으로 되어 있다. 증상은 식욕상실이나 체중감소 또는 식욕증가나 체중증가, 흥미나 쾌락의 상실, 불면 또는 수면과잉, 정신운동의 지연 또는 지체, 에너지의 감퇴나 피로감, 무가치감. 자책감 또는 부적절한 죄책감, 자살충동. 죽었으면 하는 소원 또는 자살기도, 사고력, 주의집중 능력의 감퇴 등이다. 진단은 여러 가지 기준에 의해서 가능하나 미국정신과학회에서 만든 진단기준인 DSM-3에 의하면 최소한 2주동안 거의 매일 위에서 기술한 우울증의 대표적 증상 중 최소한 4가지 증상이 나타나야만 우울병으로 진단할 수 있다고 한다. |

| 설명 | 자궁이란 태아가 수태되어서 분만전까지 발육하고 성장하는 공간이다. 자궁속에 병변이 있어 임신이 계속될 수 없거나 아니면 다른 이유로 임신되어 있는 태아를 제거하고자 할 경우에 사용되는 방법이다. 여기서 긁어내기 위하여는 우선 자궁의 입구에 해당하는 자궁목을 확장시켜야 한다. 여기에는 급속히 확장을 시도하는 법과 서서히 확장을 시도하는 2가지 방법이 있다. 자궁목을 급속히 확장할 때는 헤가르 목관확장기(Hegar's dilatator)를 사용한다. 이것은 작은 금속막대로 작은 크기부터 큰 크기까지 다양한 크기가 있어서 우선 작은 막대로 시작하여 점점 큰 크기의 막대를 자궁목에 넣어서 자궁목을 확장시킨다. 서서히 확장시킬 때는 Laminaria tent를 목관에 삽입하는 방법을 사용한다. Laminaria tent란 해초로 만든 작은 막대로 수분을 흡수하면 점점 늘어나는 성질이 있다. 이것을 자궁의 목에 넣으면 이것이 수분을 흡수하여 늘어나므로 천천히 자궁의 목이 늘어난다. 자궁목이 충분히 늘어나면 그 속으로 끝이 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 넣어서 자궁속의 병변이나 임신된 태아를 긁어내는데 여기에 사용되는 숟가락처럼 생긴 기구를 큐렛이라고 한다. 초기 임신중절 즉 유산과 같은 임신과 관련된 경우뿐만 아니라, 비임신 자궁의 자궁내막조직의 채취 및 제거를 위해서도 행해지는 수기이다. 이는 원칙적으로 마취하에 실시되는 것으로 자궁목관을 확장하고 기구로 자궁 내용물을 제거하고 큐렛으로 자궁내벽을 깨끗이 한다. 자궁천공이나 자궁목의 파열 등의 위험이 따르며, 수술후 감염 또는 출혈 등에 대한 주의가 필요하다. |

| 설명 | 정신과적 질환은 대개 신경증(neurosis)와 정신병(psychosis)의 두 가지로 나눈다. 위의 두 가지 모두가 정신이 정상사람과 다른 것은 똑 같지만 신경증과 정신병의 차이점은 현실에 대한 인식의 차이이다. 즉 현실을 정확히 인지하고 현실에 대한 정확한 판단을 할 수 있는 경우를 신경증이라 하고 그렇지 않을 경우에는 정신병이라고 한다. 신경증의 경우는 정상이라고 생각되는 사람도 많이 가지고 있는 정신과적 질환이고 대개 증상이 양호하고 예후가 좋다. 불안 신경증이란 불안을 주 증상으로 하는 신경증을 말한다. |

| 설명 | 심리적 불안정이나 불안 등을 주 특징으로 하는 정신과적 병태. 대표적인 예로는 공포증(phobia)와 공황장애(panic disorder), 전반적 불안장애(generalized anxiety disorder) 등이 있다. 공포증이란 특정한 장소나 상황에 대해서 병적인 불안을 느끼는 것으로 광장공포증(agoraphobia): 탁 트인 공간을 무서워함. 사회공포층(social phobia): 다른 사람앞에 서는 것을 무서워 함. 고소공포층(acrophobia): 높은 곳에 가는 것을 무서워함. 진폐공포증(claustrophobia): 밀폐된 공간을 무서워함. 동물공포증(zoophobia): 동물을 병적으로 무서워함 등을 포함한다. 공황장애(panic disorde)란 외부의 위험한 자극이 없는데도 불구하고 갑자기 극심한 공포를 느끼는 것을 말한다. 대개 심장이 심하게 뛰거나 식은 땀을 흘리고, 실신, 호흡곤란 등의 증상을 동반한다. 전반적 불안장애(generalized anxiety disorder)란 1개월이상 지속적인 불안을 느끼는 것을 말한다. 대개 사소한 일상의 일에 대한 불안을 느끼며, 불안의 대상이 없는 경우에는 언제 불안을 느낄지 모른다는 불안감(예기불안)을 호소한다. 대개 쇠약, 어지러움, 손떨림, 땀을 흘리는 등의 신체적 증상을 동반한다. |
