| 설명 | 오래된 당뇨의 합병증으로 발생한다. 대개 당뇨병에 이환된 경우 당뇨병 자체에 의한 질병보다 오랜 기간후의 합병증에 의해 목숨을 잃는 경우가 많다. 초기에 당뇨병에서 혈중 포도당농도를 잘 조절한 경우 이런 합병증이 발생하는 경우가 낮으나, 그렇지 못한 경우 신장의 합병증이 발생할 수 있다. 한번 발생한 경우, 치료는 불가능하며, 그 진행 또한 늦출 수 없다. 치료법은 오직 하나 콩팥이식술에 의해서만 가능하며 이식술을 시행한 이후에도 혈당량의 조절은 필수적이다. |

| 설명 | 인간사회에 항상 존재하지만 특수한 기후나 토질로 인하여 특정지역에만 존재하는 사망률이 낮고, 임상적으로도 드물게 볼 수 있는 병. 특히 그 토지의 풍토-기후-생물-토양 등의 자연환경과 그 지방 주민의 풍속-습관-인습 등이 복잡하게 얽혀서 생긴 특수한 병을 가리킨다. 일반적으로 그 지방 주민의 사망률은 그다지 높지 않지만 근절되기 어려운 것이 특징이다. 지방병이라는 말은 어느 지방에 한정하여 볼 수 있는 병이라는 점에서는 같지만, 풍토환경과 밀접한 관계가 있다는 데서 보면 풍토병이라는 용어가 적절하다. 국내적으로는 쯔쯔가무시병, 야생토끼병, 렙토스피라증 등이 알려져 있고, 세계적으로는 말라리아, 황열, 페트스, 일본주혈흡충증 등이 알려져 있다. |

| reflux nephropathy | <nephrology> A condition where the chronic backup of urine into a kidney results in kidney damage. Urine is forced out of the bladder and back toward kidney. This condition occurs most commonly in children who have congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract. Symptoms include back pain, flank, pain, abdominal pain, urinary frequency or urgency and blood in the urine. Other symptoms include nausea, fever and chills, most often indicating a kidney infection has occurred. Diagnosis is frequently confirmed by voiding cystourethrogram. | membranous nephropathy | <pathology> A kidney disease that occurs due to inflammation of the kidney glomerulus and its basement membrane. The exact cause is unknown but it appears to be related to the deposition of immune complexes in the basement membrane leading to thickening of the capillary walls. This disorder is a common cause of nephrotic syndrome an is usually how the disease manifests. Risk factors include primary renal disease, malaria, hepatitis B, lupus, syphilis, cancers and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Risks also include exposure to some medications such as gold compounds and penicillamine. Mercury, trimethadione and some skin-lightening creams have also been implicated. | hereditary deafness and nephropathy | <nephrology, pathology> An inherited disorder involving damage to the kidneys, haematuria and hearing loss. In some individuals vision may also be affected. This genetic disease is uncommon. Symptoms include loss of hearing, abnormal colour to urine, swelling, cough and decline in vision. Inheritance: sex-linked autosomal dominant. | IgA nephropathy | <nephrology, pathology> This is a form of glomerulonephritis that results from the deposition of circulating IgA antibody in the kidney tissues. Inflammation of the glomerulus (glomerulonephritis) is the result. This condition may present as acute glomerulonephritis, chronic glomerulonephritis or rapidly progressive glomerulonephritis. Berger's is usually detected in an individual with one or two bouts of bloody urine (usually begins during or soon after a respiratory infection) and no other symptoms of renal disease. Only rarely, will Berger's disease permanently affect kidney function and progress to chronic renal failure. This renal disorder more commonly affects males in the 16-40 age group. Origin: Gr. | IgM nephropathy | <nephrology, pathology> Inflammation of the kidney glomerulus (blood filtering portion of the kidney) due to the abnormal deposition of IgM antibody in the mesangium layer of the glomerular capillary. A form of glomerulonephritis that appears to be caused by an abnormal immune response. This disorder generally manifests as nephrotic syndrome. | endemic diseases | The constant presence of diseases or infectious agents within a given geographic area or population group. A holoendemic disease is one for which a high prevalent level of infection begins early in life and affects most of the child population, leading to a state of equilibrium such that the adult population shows evidence of the disease much less commonly than do children (malaria in many communities is a holendemic disease).
