C4b
a constituent of the classical pathway C3 convertase (C4b,2a), generated by cleavage of C4 by C1s; the active fragment C4b then binds C2 for cleavage of C2 by C1s. It is inactivated by factor I in the presence of C4 binding protein. C4b is also an opsonin that binds to the same receptors as C3b.

C4b,2a
the classical pathway C3 convertase, which cleaves C3 to C3a and C3b, a complex of C4b and C2a formed on cell membrane surfaces in the presence of Mg2+. See also notes at C2a and complement.

C4b,2a,3b
the classical pathway C5 convertase, which cleaves C5 to C5a and C5b; the complex is formed by attachment of C3b to membrane-bound C4b,2a. See also notes at C2a and complement.
