| bupropion | <chemical> A unicyclic, aminoketone antidepressant. The mechanism of its therapeutic actions is not well understood, but it does appear to block dopamine uptake. The compound is metabolised to pharmacologically active plasma metabolites. It is effective in the treatment of major depression and has some beneficial effects in attention-deficit hyperactive children and adults. Its major adverse effect is dose-related seizures in a small number of patients. Pharmacological action: antidepressive agents, second-generation, dopamine uptake inhibitors.
