| 설명 | 성인에게 있어서 과도한 성장호르몬의 분비가 있을 때 생기는 병. 대개 뇌하수체 샘종(adenoma)에서 비롯된다. 손이나 발의 끝이 두터워지며, 얼굴에 특징적인 변화(턱이 커지며, 얼굴이 마당쇠형으로 변한다)가 오며 과도한 땀남, 성욕감퇴, 생리불순, 관절염, 허리통증 등의 증상도 올 수 있다. 그리고 특징적인 시야의 변화도 볼 수 있다. |

| acromegaly | <endocrinology> A condition that results from the excess production of growth hormone in the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland. Acromegaly is characterised by enlarged facial features, enlarged jaw, enlarged frontal bone of skull, widely spaced teeth and enlargement of the bones of the extremities.
