| anlagen |
Of German origin the term anlagen refers to any group of relatively undifferentiated cells that is destined to become a particular group of differentiated cells at a later time in development. It is used to identify distinct cell groups in fly development and also in vertebrate development for example the "optic anlagen" is the group of cells that will become the eye in many vertebrates. The term is related to fatemaps, defined cell lineages, and differentiation.
