| 3-oxoacid CoA-transferase |
[EC 2.8.3.5] an enzyme of the transferase class that catalyzes the shift of coenzyme A (CoA) from succinyl CoA to acetoacetic acid to form acetoacetyl CoA; the reaction is part of a mechanism by which free β-hydroxybutyrate can be converted to acetyl CoA and used as fuel. The enzyme is present in muscle and nerve tissue but absent from liver, and it can also act on some related keto acids. Called also 3-ketoacid CoA transferase.
