| 17-hydroxycorticosteroid test | A test, dependent on the Porter-Silber reaction, that is used as a measure of adrenocortical function and is performed on urine. | 17-hydroxycorticosteroids | <biochemistry> A urine test which measures the amount of 17-hydroxycorticosteroids. A fraction of cortisol is metabolised to 17-hydroxycorticosteroids and excreted in the urine. Conditions that result in increased serum cortisol (Cushing's syndrome and Cushing's disease) will result in elevations in 17-hydroxycorticosteroid levels in the urine. (13 Nov 1997) |
