subacute nodular migratory p. a condition considered by some to be the same as erythema nodosum migrans, characterized by the development on the anterior and lateral aspects of the lower extremities, particularly in women, of discrete nodules that spread centrifugally with erythematous borders and central clearing (giving the appearance of migration) and coalesce to form plaques that eventually involute, usually with residual pigmentation.

subacute sclerosing p. a rare and devastating form of leukoencephalitis usually affecting children and adolescents. Insidious in onset, it characteristically produces progressive cerebral dysfunction over a course of several weeks or months and death within a year. Pathologically, in addition to the lesions of the white matter, there are demyelination and intranuclear inclusion bodies in nerve cells and oligodendroglia. High titers of measles virus in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid have indicated a linkage between this condition and earlier measles infection. Called also Dawson's encephalitis, subacute inclusion body encephalitis, subacute sclerosing leukoencephalopathy, van Bogaert's encephalitis, and van Bogaert's sclerosing leukoencephalitis.
