polymorphism Differences in DNA sequences that occur naturally in a population. Single nucleotide substitutions, insertions and deletions of nucleotides and repetitive sequences (microsatellites) are all examples of a polymorphism. The position at which such a sequence difference is found is a polymorphic site.
