medial cutaneous nerve of forearm <anatomy, nerve> Arises from the medial cord of the brachial plexus, passes downward in company with the brachial artery and then the basilic vein, and supplies the skin of the anterior and ulnar surfaces of the forearm.
Synonym: nervus cutaneus antebrachii medialis, medial cutaneous nerve of forearm.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial cutaneous nerve of leg <anatomy, nerve> Arises from the tibial in the popliteal space, passes down the calf between the two heads of the gastrocnemius and unites in the middle of the leg with the communicating branch of the common peroneal to form the sural nerve, distributed to the skin of the distal and lateral surfaces of the leg and ankle.
Synonym: nervus cutaneus surae medialis, medial cutaneous nerve of leg, popliteal communicating nerve, tibial communicating nerve.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial dorsal cutaneous nerve <anatomy, nerve> The medial terminal branch of the superficial peroneal nerve, supplying the dorsum of the foot and dorsal nerves to the toes (except adjacent sides of great and second toes).
Synonym: nervus cutaneus dorsalis medialis, dorsal medial cutaneous nerve.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial eminence Longitudinal elevation of the rhomboid fossa, extending along either side of the midline throughout the length of the rhombencephalon; made up of named elevations such as the facial colliculus and the hypoglossal and vagal trigones.
Synonym: eminentia medialis, eminentia teres, funiculus teres, round eminence.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial epicondylar crest The distal sharp portion of the medial margin of the humerus.

(05 Mar 2000)
medial epicondylar ridge The distal sharp portion of the medial margin of the humerus.
Synonym: crista supracondylaris medialis, medial epicondylar crest, medial epicondylar ridge, medial supracondylar crest.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial epicondyle <anatomy> A bony prominence of the inner aspect of the humerus. The lateral epicondyle provides origin for the muscles which flex the wrist. Inflammation at this site is known as golfer's elbow.
(27 Sep 1997)
medial epicondyle of femur The epicondylus located proximal to the medial condyle.
Synonym: epicondylus medialis ossis femoris, medial femoral tuberosity.
(05 Mar 2000)

Synonym: epicondylus medialis humeri, epitrochlea.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial epicondylitis <pathology> Inflammation of the tendons which insert at the medical epicondyle (of the humerus) at the elbow.
Symptoms include pain with forced flexion of the wrist joint.
(27 Sep 1997)
medial femoral circumflex artery <anatomy, artery> Origin, profunda femoris; distribution, hip joint, muscles of thigh; anastomoses, inferior gluteal, superior gluteal, lateral circumflex femoral.

Synonym: epicondylus medialis ossis femoris, medial femoral tuberosity.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial fillet A band of white fibres originating from the gracile and cuneate nuclei and decussating in the lower medulla; thence it passes upward through the centre of the medulla oblongata, close to the median raphe; on entering the pons it spreads out laterally to form a flat band ascending over the dorsal border of the pontine nuclei; in the mesencephalon it passes over the dorsal border of the substantia nigra and is displaced laterally by the red nucleus; passing medial to the medial geniculate body, the bundle enters and terminates in the ventral posterior nucleus of the thalamus. Throughout their course, the fibres retain a somatotopic order such that those originating from the gracile nucleus and representing the lower extremity lie lateral to those originating in the cuneate nucleus and representing the arm. The medial lemniscus conveys somatic-sensory information involved in tactile discrimination (two-point discrimination), position sense, and vibration sense.
Synonym: lemniscus medialis, medial fillet, Reil's band, Reil's ribbon.
(05 Mar 2000)
medial forebrain bundle A complex group of fibres arising from the basal olfactory regions, the periamygdaloid region, and the septal nuclei, and passing to the lateral hypothalamus. Some fibres continue into the tegmentum.
(12 Dec 1998)
medial frontobasal artery <anatomy, artery> The medial orbitofrontal branch, the first branch of the pericallosal artery; it supplies the medial half of the inferior surface of the frontal cortex.
