| ligamentum hyothyroideum laterale | <anatomy> Thickened elastic bundle connecting the superior horn of the thyroid cartilage to the tip of the greater horn of the hyoid cartilage; forms the posterior border of the thyrohyoid membrane. Synonym: ligamentum thyrohyoideum laterale, Berry's ligaments, ligamentum hyothyroideum laterale. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum hyothyroideum medium | <anatomy> The central thickened portion of the thyrohyoid membrane. Synonym: ligamentum thyrohyoideum medianum, ligamentum hyothyroideum medium. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum iliofemorale | <anatomy> A triangular ligament attached by its apex to the anterior inferior spine of the ilium and rim of the acetabulum, and by its base to the anterior intertrochanteric line of the femur; the strong medial band is attached to the lower part of the intertrochanteric line; the strong lateral part is fixed to the tubercle at the upper part of this line; the bands diverge, forming a Y-like figure with a weak area between; among the strongest of the body's ligaments, it limits extension at the hip joint. Synonym: ligamentum iliofemorale, Bertin's ligament, Bigelow's ligament, hypsiloid ligament, Y-shaped ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum iliolumbale | <anatomy> The strong ligament that connects the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae with the ilium, spanning the "notch" between the vertebral column and the wing of the ileum. Synonym: ligamentum iliolumbale. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum iliopectineale | A thickened band of fused iliac and psoas fascia passing from the posterior aspect of the inguinal ligament anteriorly across the front of the femoral nerve to attach to the iliopectineal eminence of the hip bone posteriorly. The iliopectinal arch thus forms a septum which subdivides the space deep to the inguinal ligament into a lateral muscular lacunae and a medial vascular lacunae. When a psoas minor muscle is present, its tendon of insertion blends with the iliopectineal arch. Synonym: arcus iliopectineus, iliopectineal ligament, ligamentum iliopectineale. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum incudis posterius | Ligamentous band extending from short crus of fincus. Synonym: ligamentum incudis posterius. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum incudis superius | Connects the body of the incus with the roof of the tympanic recess. Synonym: ligamentum incudis superius. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum inguinale | <anatomy> A fibrous band formed by the thickened inferior border of the aponeurosis of the external oblique that extends from the anterior superior spine of the ilium to the pubic tubercle bridging, muscular and vascular lacunae;forms the floor of the inguinal canal; gives origin to the lowermost fibres of internal oblique and transversus abdominis muscles. See: aponeurosis of external abdominal oblique muscle. Synonym: ligamentum inguinale, arcus inguinalis, crural arch, fallopian arch, fallopian ligament, femoral arch, Poupart's ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum intercapitale | A part of the ligamentum capitis costae intra-articulare; which connects the heads of opposite ribs by passing over the intervertebral fibrocartilage, and thus holds the ribs in their articular sockets; not present in man but well developed in the dog and cat. Synonym: intercapital ligament. (05 Mar 2000) |
| ligamentum intercarpalia dorsalia | Dorsal intercarpal ligament. See: intercarpal ligaments. (05 Mar 2000) |
