larva This is the stage after the egg and before the pupa. On average, a larva lives varying lengths of time, and is more or less an "eating machine". In addition to having the characteristics of an insect (six true legs and three body segments), some larvae also have many pairs of pseudo-legs which are used to attach themselves to the host plant they are feeding on.
