an antithrombotic used in the prophylaxis of pulmonary thromboembolism and deep venous thrombosis, administered subcutaneously. It is a depolymerized mixture of low-molecular-weight sulfated glycosaminoglycans, which inhibits coagulation factor Xa and thrombin and so prevents formation of fibrin in the coagulation cascade.
