Shorthand notation for the anatomic extent of malignant neoplasm. T stands for tumor growth, representing the size or extent of the primary tumor; N is the presence and extent of regional lymph node metastases, and M is the presence of distant metastasis. Once T, N and M have been classified, the information is used to determine the tumor's stage.
