| limb deformities, congenital | Congenital structural deformities of the upper and lower extremities collectively or unspecified. (12 Dec 1998) |

| limb-girdle muscular dystrophy | One of the less well-defined types of muscular dystrophy, probably heterogenous in nature. Onset usually in childhood or early adulthood and both sexes affected. Characterised by weakness and wasting, usually symmetrical, of the pelvic girdle muscles, the shoulder girdle muscles, or both, but not the facial muscles. Muscle pseudohypertrophy, heart involvement, and mental retardation are absent. Variable inheritance. Synonym: Leyden-Mobius muscular dystrophy, pelvofemoral muscular dystrophy, scapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. (05 Mar 2000) |
| limb-kinetic apraxia | An inability to make movements or to use objects for the purpose intended. Synonym: cortical apraxia, innervation apraxia, limb-kinetic apraxia. (05 Mar 2000) |
| limb lead | One of the three standard leads (leads I, II, III) or one of the unipolar limb lead's (aVR, aVL, aVF). (05 Mar 2000) |
| limb myokymia | Myokymia present in one or more limbs; various causes, one of the more common being prior plexus radiation. (05 Mar 2000) |
| limb of helix | A transverse ridge continuing backward from the helix of the auricle, dividing the concha into an upper portion (cymba) and a lower portion (cavity of concha). Synonym: crus helicis, crista helicis, limb of helix. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lower limb | The hip, thigh, leg, ankle, and foot. Synonym: membrum inferius, inferior limb, lower extremity, pelvic limb. (05 Mar 2000) |
| abdominopelvic splanchnic nerves | Visceral branches of the sympathetic trunks conveying presynaptic sympathetic fibres to and visceral afferent fibres from the prevertebral ganglia and para-aortic/hypogastric plexuses for the innervation of viscera located below the diaphragm. The greater, lesser, lowest, lumbar, and sacral splanchnic nerves belong to this group. (05 Mar 2000) |
| accelerator nerves | Certain of the cardiopulmonary splanchnic nerves establishing the sympathetic innervation of the heart; originating from ganglion cells of the superior, middle, and inferior cervical ganglion of the sympathetic trunk, the unmyelinated efferent fibres of the accelerator nerve's stimulate an increase in the heart rate. (05 Mar 2000) |
| accessory phrenic nerves | Accessory nerve strands that arise from the fifth cervical nerve, often as branches of the nerve to the subclavius, passing downward to join the phrenic nerve. Synonym: nervi phrenici accessorii. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anococcygeal nerves | Several small nerves arising from the coccygeal plexus, supplying the skin over the coccyx. Synonym: nervi anococcygei. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior auricular nerves | Branches of the auriculotemporal nerve that supply the tragus and upper part of the auricle. Synonym: nervi auriculares anteriores. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior cutaneous branches of intercostal nerves | Medial mammary branches of anterior cutaneous branches of ventral primary rami of thoracic spinal nerves. See: medial mammary branches. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior cutaneous nerves of abdomen | The ventral primary rami of spinal nerves T7-T11 (seventh to eleventh intercostal nerves), which supply the abdominal as well as the thoracic wall; innervate intercostal, subcostal, serratus posterior inferior, transversus abdominis, external and internal oblique, and rectus abdominis muscles, and provide sensory branches to the periphery of the diaphragm, and parietal pleura and peritoneum. Synonym: rami cutanei anteriores pectoralis et abdominalis nervorum intercostalium, ramus cutaneus anterior (pectoralis et abdominalis) nervorum thoracicorum, anterior cutaneous nerves of abdomen, pectoral and abdominal anterior cutaneous branch of intercostal nerves. (05 Mar 2000) |
| anterior femoral cutaneous nerves | Anterior cutaneous branches of femoral nerve; supplies distal 3/4 of skin and superficial fascia of anterior and medial thigh. Synonym: rami cutanei anteriores nervi femoralis. (05 Mar 2000) |
