| 설명 | 나이든 사람에게 발생하는 신경계의 퇴행병이다. 주로 운동을 담당하는 중간뇌부위가 침범된다. 원인은 바이러스, 약물, 혹은 동맥경화증 등으로 알려진 경우도 있으나, 원인을 알 수 없는 경우가 많다. 증상은 가면얼굴, 쓰러질 것 같은 걸음걸이, 손떨림, 근육의 강직, 앞으로 기울어진 자세 등임. 치료는 특별한 것이 없으며, 대개 보존적 치료(완치를 목적으로 하지 않고 단지 환자의 생활을 보조해주는 정도의 치료)를 시행한다. 최근, 죽은 태아의 뇌를 이식하는 뇌 이식술에 의한 치료효과가 높다는 보고가 있다. |

| 설명 | 파킨슨병과는 다른 것으로, 뇌혈관성이나 약물성 등의 증후군(이차성)과 파킨슨병, 즉 무동, 근육강직, 떨림 등의 임상증상을 동반한 중추신경변성 병에 대한 명칭이다. 임상증상의 하나로서 파킨슨 증후군을 나타내는 변성병이 대부분을 차지하며, 파킨슨병에서는 나타나지 않는 피라밋로증상, 실조 등의 신경증상을 확인할 수 있다. 치매의 합병 빈도는 20% 전후이며, 뇌파이상이 나타난다. 1817년 영국의 J. 파킨슨이 보고한 것으로 유전성도 고려되는 병으로 치매와 함께 치명적인 노인병으로 알려져 있다. 또 같은 증세가 유행성 뇌염(일본뇌염), 뇌매독, 일산화탄소중독, 망간중독, 윌슨병 등 일 때에도 나타난다. 발병률은 1천명 중의 한 명꼴로 연령이 높을 수록 발생빈도가 높다. 50세 이상에서는 백병 중 한명의 발병률을 보이고 있다. |
