Gianotti-Crosti s. a generally benign and self-limited disease of young children, characterized by crops of monomorphous, usually nonpruritic, tan to red, flat-topped, firm papules forming a symmetrical eruption in an acral distribution, usually on the face, buttocks, and limbs, including the palms and soles. It is associated with malaise, low grade fever, and few other constitutional symptoms. The cause is a viral infection, particularly with hepatitis B virus. Called also acrodermatitis papulosa infantum, infantile acrodermatitis, and papular acrodermatitis of childhood. See accompanying illustration.
