| posterior cord of brachial plexus | In the brachial plexus, the bundle of nerve fibres formed by the posterior divisions of the upper, middle and lower trunks which lies posterior to the axillary artery; it gives rise to the upper and lower subscapular and thoracodorsal nerves, terminates by dividing into the axillary, and radial nerves. Synonym: fasciculus posterior plexus brachialis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| C-terminal leucine protein methyltransferase | <enzyme> Reversibly modifies protein phosphatase 2a by methyl esterification at its c-terminal leucine residues Registry number: EC 2.1.1.- Synonym: tlp methyltransferase (26 Jun 1999) |
| prolapse of umbilical cord | Presentation of part of the umbilical cord ahead of the foetus; it may cause foetal death due to compression of the cord between the presenting part of the foetus and the maternal pelvis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| protein NH2-terminal asparagine deamidase | <enzyme> Converts amino terminal asparagine to aspartic acid; from porcine liver; mw about 33 kD Registry number: EC 3.5.1.- Synonym: porcine pnad (26 Jun 1999) |
| protein N-terminal acetyltransferase | <enzyme> From saccharmyces cerevisiae; encodes a catalytic subunit of an n-terminal acetyltransferase; ard1 and nat1 proteins are subunits of this enzyme Registry number: EC 2.3.1.- Synonym: nat1 gene protein, saccharomyces, yeast protein n-terminal acetyltransferase, n-terminal protein acetyltransferase, ard1 protein (26 Jun 1999) |
| psalterial cord | The stratified epithelium lining the upper part of the ligamentum spirale cochleae; it is penetrated by capillaries and is believed to be the site of production of endolymph. Synonym: stria vascularis ductus cochlearis, psalterial cord, vascular stripe. (05 Mar 2000) |
| HIV long-terminal repeat | Regulatory sequences important for viral replication that are located on each end of the HIV genome. The ltr includes the HIV enhancer, promoter, and other sequences. Specific regions in the ltr include the negative regulatory element (nre), nf-kappa b binding sites , sp1 binding sites, tata box, and trans-acting responsive element (tar). The binding of both cellular and viral proteins to these regions regulates HIV transcription. (12 Dec 1998) |
| sex cord-stromal tumour | A malignant neoplasm of the ovary or testis. These tumours differentiate toward sex cords (in embryonic gonads) in the form of female (i.e., granulosa and theca) cells, male (i.e., sertoli and leydig) cells, or indifferent elements. In the ovary, sex cord-stromal tumours comprise 5% of all ovarian neoplasms. In the testes, leydig and sertoli cell tumours comprise about 5% of all testicular neoplasms, 10% of which behave in a malignant fashion. (12 Dec 1998) |
| small bowel disease involving terminal ileum | <radiology> Crohn's, TB, Yersinia (12 Dec 1998) |
| spermatic cord | A group of structures which go through the inguinal canal to the testis. The structures include the vas deferens, arteries, veins, lymphatic vessels, and nerves. (12 Dec 1998) |
| spermatic cord torsion | Torsion of the spermatic cord caused usually by incomplete attachment of the epididymis to the testis or by inclusion of the cord within the tunica vaginalis. Faulty development of various anatomical components of the testes is also a cause. It occurs most frequently in childhood and adolescence. (12 Dec 1998) |
| nephrogenic cord | A longitudinal dorsolateral tract of mesoderm derived from intermediate mesoderm; the primordium for both mesonephric and metanephric tubules. (05 Mar 2000) |
| NH2-terminal | <biochemistry> The end of a protein or polypeptide chain with the unattached amino group or the aminoacyl residue containing it. Each amino acid in the chain has an amino group on one side, which is attached to the carboxyl group (COOH group) of the previous amino acid, and a carboxyl group on the other side (which is attached to the amino group of the next amino acid). The other end of the polypeptide chain is called the carboxyl terminal. Synonym: NH2-terminal. (14 Aug 2000) |
| Deiters' terminal frames | Platelike structures in the organ of Corti uniting the outer phalangeal cells with Hensen's cells. (05 Mar 2000) |
