retinol binding protein |
Retinol, the dietary form of vitamin A, is a fat-soluble, antioxidant vitamin important in vision and bone growth. It belongs to the family of chemical compounds known as retinoids. Retinol is ingested in a precursor form; animal sources (milk and eggs) contain retinyl esters, whereas plants (carrots, spinach) contain carotenoids. Tissue cells convert these precursors to retinol, and then to either retinal or retinoic acid. ...

retinal rivalry |
When two dissimilar images fall on the corresponding areas of the retina, there is confusion due to their superimposition and there is a conflict between the two retinas. The brain therefore suppresses one of the images. If both eyes have equal dominance there is alternating suppression of these images, eg, while wearing red glass in front of one eye and green in front of the other, a plane white surface will appear red and green alternately.
