| oligodendroglia |
(Gr. oligos, few; dendron, tree; glia, glue): Neuroglial cells of ectodermal origin (from bipotential O-2A progenitor cells) introduced by Del Rio Hortega and forming part of the non-neuronal interstitium the central nervous system. Interfascicular oligos are common to white matter whereas perineuronal forms are found in gray matter. These cells make myelin and can be identified by their content of carbonic anhydrase, surface galactocerebroside, myelin, and MBP.
