  • beta-N-Acetylhexosaminidase - »õâ An enzyme hydrolyzing terminal non-reducing N-acetyl-D-hexosamine residues in N-acetyl-beta-D-hexosaminides. It acts on GLUCOSIDES; GALACTOSIDES; and several OLIGOSACCHARIDES. Hexosaminidase A cleaves GM2, GA2, globosides, and hexosamine oligosaccharides. Hexosaminidase B cleaves all the above substrates except GM2. Deficiency of Hexosaminidase A causes TAY-SACHS DISEASE, while deficiency of both A and B isozymes causes SANDHOFF DISEASE. The enzyme has also been used as a tumor marker to distinguish between malignant and benign disease.
    Synonyms : N-Acetyl-beta-D-hexosaminidase, beta-N-Acetyl-D-hexosaminidase, beta-N-Acetyl-hexosaminidase, beta-N-Acetylhexosaminidase A, N Acetyl beta D hexosaminidase, beta Hexosaminidase, beta N Acetyl D hexosaminidase, beta N Acetyl hexosaminidase
  • beta-Naphthoflavone - »õâ A polyaromatic hydrocarbon inducer of P4501A1 and P4501A2 cytochromes. (Proc Soc Exp Biol Med 1994 Dec:207(3):302-308)
    Synonyms : 5, 6 Benzoflavone, beta Naphthoflavone
  • beta-Synuclein - »õâ A synuclein that is closely related to ALPHA-SYNUCLEIN. It may play a neuroprotective role against some of the toxic effects of aggregated ALPHA-SYNUCLEIN.
Synonyms : Phosphoneuroprotein 14, beta Synuclein
  • beta-Thalassemia - »õâ A disorder characterized by reduced synthesis of the beta chains of hemoglobin. There is retardation of hemoglobin A synthesis in the heterozygous form (thalassemia minor), which is asymptomatic, while in the homozygous form (thalassemia major, Cooley's anemia, Mediterranean anemia, erythroblastic anemia), which can result in severe complications and even death, hemoglobin A synthesis is absent.
Synonyms : Anemia, Cooley, Anemia, Cooleys, Anemias, Erythroblastic, Cooley's Anemia, Disease, Hemoglobin F, Erythroblastic Anemia, Mediterranean Anemia, beta Thalassemia
  • beta-Thromboglobulin - »õâ A platelet-specific protein which is released when platelets aggregate. Elevated plasma levels have been reported after deep venous thrombosis, pre-eclampsia, myocardial infarction with mural thrombosis, and myeloproliferative disorders. Measurement of beta-thromboglobulin in biological fluids by radioimmunoassay is used for the diagnosis and assessment of progress of thromboembolic disorders.
Synonyms : beta-2 Thromboglobulin, Thromboglobulin, beta-2, beta 2 Thromboglobulin, beta Thromboglobulin
