buccal nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A sensory branch of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve; it passes downward emerging from beneath the ramus of the mandible to run forward on the buccinator muscle, piercing (but not supplying) it to supply the buccal mucous membrane and skin of the cheek near the angle of the mouth. Synonym: nervus buccalis, buccinator nerve, long buccal nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |

buccinator nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A sensory branch of the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve; it passes downward emerging from beneath the ramus of the mandible to run forward on the buccinator muscle, piercing (but not supplying) it to supply the buccal mucous membrane and skin of the cheek near the angle of the mouth. Synonym: nervus buccalis, buccinator nerve, long buccal nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
radial nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A major nerve of the upper extremity. In humans the fibres of the radial nerve originate in the lower cervical and upper thoracic spinal cord (usually c5 to t1), travel via the posterior cord of the brachial plexus, and supply motor innervation to extensor muscles of the arm and cutaneous sensory fibres to extensor regions of the arm and hand. (12 Dec 1998) |
Galen's nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branch of internal branch of superior laryngeal nerve communicating with the recurrent laryngeal nerve in the wall of the laryngopharynx supplying sensory fibres to the latter. Synonym: ramus communicans nervi laryngei recurrentis cum ramo laryngeo interno, ramus communicans nervi laryngei superioris cum nervo laryngeo recurrenti, Galen's anastomosis, Galen's nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
vagus nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The vagus nerve enervates the gut (gastrointestinal tract), heart and larynx. Lesions of the tenth nerve usually result in a horse voice, but may also cause difficulty in swallowing or talking. Synonym: cranial nerve X. (27 Sep 1997) |
Valentin's nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A nerve that connects the pterygopalatine ganglion with the abducens nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
gangliated nerve | <anatomy, nerve> A sympathetic nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
ganglionic branches of lingual nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Motor roots of submandibular ganglion; communicating branches between submandibular ganglion and lingual nerve. Synonym: rami communicantes ganglii submandibularis cum nervo linguali, motor roots of submandibular ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
ganglionic branches of maxillary nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The ganglionic branches, two short sensory branches of the maxillary nerve in the pterygopalatine fossa, the fibres of which pass through the pterygopalatine ganglion without synapse. Synonym: radix sensoria ganglii pterygopalatini, rami ganglionici nervi maxillaris, rami ganglionares, nervi pterygopalatini, nervi sphenopalatini, pterygopalatine nerves, sensory root of pterygopalatine ganglion. (05 Mar 2000) |
ganglionic layer of optic nerve | <anatomy, nerve> The inner layer of multipolar neurons in the retina consisting of the relatively large neurons that give rise to the fibres of the optic nerve. Synonym: stratum ganglionare nervi optici. (05 Mar 2000) |
palmar branch of median nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branch of median nerve arising proximal to flexor retinaculum and running superficial to it to supply skin of proximal central palm and thenar eminence. Since it does not traverse carpal tunnel, it is not affected by carpal tunnel syndrome, even though it supplies skin distal to carpal tunnel. Synonym: ramus palmaris nervi mediani. (05 Mar 2000) |
palmar branch of ulnar nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branch of ulnar nerve arising in distal forearm and accompanying palmar artery into hand where it supplies skin of little finger and medial half of ring finger and adjacent parts of palm. Synonym: ramus palmaris nervi ulnaris. (05 Mar 2000) |
ganglion of facial nerve | The sensory ganglion of the facial (7th cranial) nerve. The geniculate ganglion cells send central processes to the brainstem and peripheral processes to the taste buds in the anterior tongue, the soft palate, and the skin of the external auditory meatus and the mastoid process. (12 Dec 1998) |
ganglion of intermediate nerve | The sensory ganglion of the facial (7th cranial) nerve. The geniculate ganglion cells send central processes to the brainstem and peripheral processes to the taste buds in the anterior tongue, the soft palate, and the skin of the external auditory meatus and the mastoid process. (12 Dec 1998) |
palpebral branches of infratrochlear nerve | <anatomy, nerve> Branches of infratrochlear nerve supplying skin of medial aspects of upper and lower eyelids. Synonym: rami palpebrales nervi infratrochlearis. (05 Mar 2000) |
