intoxication characterized by various gastrointestinal and neurological disturbances, resulting from the ingestion of the flesh of poisonous fishes; the term excludes ordinary bacterial food poisoning. Some types are elasmobranch, Gymnothorax, fugu or puffer fish, and scombroid poisoning and ciguatera. Called also fish poisoning.
