| ventricular tachycardia | <cardiology> Abnormal accelerated ventricular rhythm with a usual rate of 150-200 beats per minute. Because ventricular tachycardia originates in the ventricle, it appears as a wide complex rhythm on ECG. A potentially unstable rhythm that may result in fainting, low blood pressure, shock or sudden death. Ventricular tachycardia has the potential of degrading to the more serious ventricular fibrillation. | right ventricular failure | An weakening of the right ventricle that results in the back up of blood in the venous system, liver, gastrointestinal tract and extremities. The causes of this condition include left-sided congestive heart failure, emphysema, valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathy, anaemia, hyperthyroidism, cor pulmonale and congenital heart disease. Risk factors include diabetes, alcoholism, obesity and smoking. Symptoms include swelling of the feet and ankles, nocturia, increased distention of neck veins, fatigue, weakness and fainting, Ascites, arrhythmias and pleural effusions are complications of right ventricular failure. | premature ventricular contractions | Contractions of the lower chambers of the heart, the ventricles, which occur earlier than usual, because of abnormal electrical activity of the ventricles. The premature contraction is followed by a pause, as the heart electrical system resets itself and the contraction following the pause is usually more forceful than normal.
