| recessus superior omentalis | A portion of the vestibule of the bursa omentalis that extends upward between the inferior vena cava and the oesophagus. Synonym: recessus superior omentalis. (05 Mar 2000) |

| paries superior orbitae | Formed by the orbital plate of the frontal bone and the lesser wing of the sphenoid bone, the optic canal opens at its posterior limit; an indentation, the fossa for the lacrimal gland, is located in the anterolateral part of the roof. Synonym: paries superior orbitae, superior wall of orbit. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars lateralis rami lobi medii venae pulmonalis dexter superior | lateral part of middle lobar branch of right superior pulmonary vein |
| pars superior duodeni | pars superior duodeni |
| pars superior faciei diaphragmaticae hepatis | The convex superior portion of the diaphragmatic surface of the liver. Synonym: pars superior faciei diaphragmaticae hepatis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars superior ganglii vestibularis | Rostral part, the superior part of the vestibular ganglion that receives fibres from the maculae of the utricle and the saccule and the ampullae of the anterior and lateral saemicircular ducts. Synonym: pars superior ganglii vestibularis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pars superior rami lingularis venae pulmonis sinistri | <anatomy, vein> The vein that drains the superior lingular bronchopulmonary segment of the left lung. Synonym: pars superior rami lingularis venae pulmonis sinistri. (05 Mar 2000) |
| regions of superior limb | The topographic divisions of the upper limb: deltoid, arm, elbow, forearm, carpal region, and hand. Synonym: regiones membri superioris, regions of superior limb. (05 Mar 2000) |
| glossopharyngeal part of superior pharyngeal constrictor | See: superior constrictor muscle of pharynx. Synonym: pars glossopharyngea musculi constrictoris pharyngis superioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| medial superior genicular artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, popliteal; distribution, knee joint; anastomoses, descending genicular, lateral superior genicular, i.e., the articular vascular network of the knee. Synonym: arteria genus superior medialis, medial superior genicular artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| pedunculus cerebellaris superior | A large bundle of nerve fibres that originate from the dentate and interpositus nuclei and emerges from the cerebellum in the rostral direction, along the lateral wall of the fourth ventricle. The bundle submerges from the dorsal surface of the brainstem into the mesencephalic tegmentum, where all of its fibres cross in the massive decussation of the superior cerebellar peduncles. Part of the bundle terminates in the contralateral red nucleus; the bulk of the fibres continue rostrally to parts of the ventral intermediate nucleus of thalamus, ventral posterolateral nucleus of thalamus, and central lateral nucleus of thalamus. Synonym: pedunculus cerebellaris superior, brachium conjunctivum cerebelli. (05 Mar 2000) |
| mesenteric artery, superior | A large vessel supplying the whole length of the small intestine except the superior part of the duodenum. It also supplies the caecum and the ascending part of the colon and about half the transverse part of the colon. It arises from the anterior surface of the aorta below the coeliac artery at the level of the first lumbar vertebra. (12 Dec 1998) |
| gray layer of superior colliculus | Term applied to any one of the three major layers of gray matter of the superior colliculus that alternate with layers composed chiefly of nerve fibres: 1) the superficial gray layer of superior colliculus, above the largely white layer of the incoming fibres of the optic tract (optic layer); 2) the middle gray layer of superior colliculus, placed between the optic layer and a more deeply located layer of fibres, the stratum lemnisci; 3) the deep gray layer of superior colliculus, between the stratum lemnisci and the central gray substance surrounding the cerebral aqueduct, and containing the large nerve cells from which most of the colliculus descending connections (tectobulbar, tectopontine, and tectospinal tract) originate. Synonym: stratum griseum colliculi superioris, stratum cinereum colliculi superioris. (05 Mar 2000) |
| great superior pancreatic artery | <anatomy, artery> Origin, splenic; distribution, head and body of pancreas; anastomoses, superior pancreaticoduodenal. Synonym: arteria pancreatica dorsalis, great superior pancreatic artery. (05 Mar 2000) |
| right superior intercostal vein | <anatomy, vein> A tributary of the azygos vein formed by the union of the right second, third, and fourth posterior intercostal veins. Synonym: vena intercostalis superior dextra. (05 Mar 2000) |
