Ozone is a very reactive form of oxygen. It's formed naturally in the atmosphere by a photochemical reaction and is a major air pollutant in the lower atmosphere. Ozone can be used for oxidizing, bleaching, disinfecting and deodorizing.

While ozone protects us from ultraviolet rays in the stratosphere located 20 miles above the earth, we are now forming ozone, because of air pollution emissions, in the lower atmosphere in which we breathe. Ozone is a strong oxidizer and directly attacks the lungs and mucous tissue. It is especially bad for asthmatics and people with other respiratory problems.
