| nervus dorsalis scapulae | <anatomy, nerve> Arises from ventral primary rami of the fifth to seventh cervical nerves and passes downward to supply the levator scapulae and the rhomboideus major and minor muscles. Synonym: nervus dorsalis scapulae, dorsal nerve of scapula, nerve to rhomboid, posterior scapular nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |

| nervus interosseus dorsalis | <anatomy, nerve> The deep terminal branch of the radial nerve, arises in the cubital region, penetrating and supplying the supinator and continuing with the posterior interosseous artery to supply all the extensor muscles in the forearm. Synonym: nervus interosseus posterior, nervus antebrachii posterior, deep branch of the radial nerve, dorsal interosseous nerve, nervus interosseus dorsalis, posterior antebrachial nerve. (05 Mar 2000) |
| deep plantar branch of dorsalis pedis artery | <anatomy, artery> Deep plantar branch of arcuate artery or its first metatarsal artery branch which penetrates the foot between first and second metatarsal bones to anastomose with the termination of the plantar arterial arch. Synonym: ramus plantaris profundus arteriae dorsalis pedis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dorsalis | Synonym: posterior. Origin: L. (05 Mar 2000) |
| dorsalis pedis artery | <anatomy, artery> Continuation of anterior tibial artery after crossing ankle; branches, lateral tarsal, arcuate, dorsal metatarsal; a continuation of the anterior tibial; anastomoses, with the lateral plantar to form the plantar arch. Synonym: arteria dorsalis pedis, dorsal artery of foot. (05 Mar 2000) |
| tabes dorsalis | A condition that results from the destruction of the dorsal columns in the spinal cord, normally responsible for position sense. Loss of position sense causes severe gait and leg ataxia (balance and motor control problems). Tabes dorsalis can be the result of spinal cord injury or infection (syphilis). Results in a staggering wide-based gait, postural instability, pain and paresthesias. (27 Sep 1997) |
| tetanus dorsalis | <neurology> A form of spasm in which the head and the heels are bent backward and the body bowed forward. Origin: Gr. Tonos = tension (18 Nov 1997) |
| facies digitalis dorsalis | The dorsal surface of a finger or toe. Synonym: facies digitalis dorsalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| facies dorsalis | The dorsal surface of a structure such as the sacrum and the scapula. Synonym: facies dorsalis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| facies dorsalis ossis sacri | The posterosuperior aspect of the sacrum marked by a median and two lateral sacral crests between which four dorsal sacral foramina are located on each side. Synonym: facies dorsalis ossis sacri. (05 Mar 2000) |
| facies dorsalis scapulae | The outer aspect of the body of the scapula, subdivided by the prominent spine of the scapula into a smaller supraspinous fossa and a larger infraspinous fossa. Synonym: facies dorsalis scapulae. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fascia dorsalis manus | The deep fascia of the back of the hand continuous proximally with the extensor retinaculum. Synonym: fascia dorsalis manus. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fascia dorsalis pedis | The fascia that encloses the extensor tendons of the toes and blends with the inferior extensor retinaculum. Synonym: fascia dorsalis pedis. (05 Mar 2000) |
| fasciculus longitudinalis dorsalis | A bundle of thin, poorly myelinated nerve fibres reciprocally connecting the periventricular zone of the hypothalamus with ventral parts of the central gray substance of the midbrain. Synonym: fasciculus longitudinalis dorsalis, Schutz' bundle, tract of Schutz. (05 Mar 2000) |
| lamina dorsalis | The dorsal division of the lateral walls of the neural tube in the embryo; it gives rise to neurons relaying afferent impulses to higher centres; in the adult such neurons compose the sensory nuclei of the spinal cord and brainstem. Synonym: lamina alaris, alar plate of neural tube, dorsolateral plate of neural tube, lamina dorsalis, wing plate. (05 Mar 2000) |
