meter A pattern of prodosy used to identify (or qualify) the syllables of a verse as an expression of a particular type poetic composition. An analogy in musical composition might be the 3/4 meter of the waltz. For a waltz to be a wlatz per se, the musical arrangement must exhibit 3/4 meter per measure.
