| angina pectoris |
Chest discomfort resulting from blockages within coronary arteries. The heart muscle that the diseased coronary artery supplies becomes deprived of the nourishment it needs, especially during exercise or periods of heightened stress. In this setting, angina pectoris occurs. As opposed to myocardial infarction (heart attack), heart cell death does not take place during a bout of angina pectoris.
