Ammonium (NH4+) is the water-soluble form of ammoniacal nitrogen. Ammonia and ammonium exist in equilibrium with each other. At lower temperatures and lower pH, ammonium is favoured over ammonia; at higher temperatures and higher pH, ammonia tends to dominate.
