MDI Medium-Dependent Interface (network, ethernet) The mechanical and electrical interface between the trunk cable medium and the MAU. It is used mostly to caracterize a type of Ethernet twisted pair port connection: MDI ports connect to MDIX (cross-over) ports using straight-through twisted pair cabling. See also MDI-X.

MDI (Multiple Document Interface) A Windows interface program allowing programmers to write applications with many windows, with each application having a main window and a varying number of child windows. The child windows are shown inside of the main window. MDI is rapidly being replaced by a newer application program interface (API) called Single Interface Document (SDI).

MDI An interface that uses a primary window to contain related document windows. The parent window's title bar is displayed along with the child window's title bar. If the child window displays a document window, an icon that indicates the application data's file type appears in the child window's title bar. The IBM Open Class Library does not support multiple document interface.
