| Kaplan-Meier survival c. |
a consistent estimate of the survival curve that can be computed from randomly censored data. At each patient death (or other endpoint) the conditional probability of survival during the interval since the last death is calculated as the number of patients observed to survive beyond that point (i.e., those who have not yet died and have not left the trial for other reasons) divided by the number at risk. The value of the survival curve at that point is calculated as the product of the conditional probabilities of survival for all of the intervals up to that point. Called also product-limit estimate.

| Kaposi s. |
a multicentric, malignant neoplastic vascular proliferation characterized by bluish-red cutaneous nodules, usually on the lower limbs, that slowly increase in size and number and spread to more proximal sites. The tumors have endothelium-lined channels and vascular spaces mixed with aggregates of spindle-shaped cells; they may remain confined to skin and subcutaneous tissue, but widespread visceral involvement may occur. The condition is endemic in certain parts of Central Africa and Central and Eastern Europe, and a virulent and disseminated form occurs in immunocompromised patients. Human herpesvirus 8 has been implicated in its etiology. Called also multiple idiopathic hemorrhagic s. and idiopathic multiple pigmented hemorrhagic s.
