endodermal sinus tumour An unusual and aggressive tumour of germ-cell origin that reproduces the extraembryonic structures of the early embryo. It is the most common malignant germ cell tumour found in children. It is characterised by a labyrinthine glandular pattern of flat epithelial cells and rounded papillary processes with a central capillary (schiller-duval body). The tumour is rarely bilateral. Before the use of combination chemotherapy, the tumour was almost invariably fatal.

  • Endometrial Stromal Tumors - »õâ Neoplasms of the endometrial stroma that sometimes involve the MYOMETRIUM. These tumors contain cells that may closely or remotely resemble the normal stromal cells. Endometrial stromal neoplasms are divided into three categories: (1) benign stromal nodules; (2) low-grade stromal sarcoma, or endolymphatic stromal myosis; and (3) malignant endometrial stromal sarcoma (SARCOMA, ENDOMETRIAL STROMAL).
Synonyms : Endolymphatic Stromal Myosis, Sarcoma, Endometrial Stromal, Low-Grade, Endolymphatic Stromal Myoses, Endometrial Stromal Tumor, Myoses, Endolymphatic Stromal, Myosis, Endolymphatic Stromal, Stromal Myoses, Endolymphatic, Stromal Myosis, Endolymphatic
  • Endometriosis - »õâ A condition in which functional endometrial tissue is present outside the UTERUS. It is often confined to the PELVIS involving the OVARY, the ligaments, cul-de-sac, and the uterovesical peritoneum.
    Synonyms : Endometriomas, Endometrioses
  • Endometritis - »õâ Inflammation of the ENDOMETRIUM, usually caused by intrauterine infections. Endometritis is the most common cause of postpartum fever.
    Synonyms :
  • Endometrium - »õâ The mucous membrane lining of the uterine cavity that is hormonally responsive during the MENSTRUAL CYCLE and PREGNANCY. The endometrium undergoes cyclic changes that characterize MENSTRUATION. After successful FERTILIZATION, it serves to sustain the developing EMBRYO.
    Synonyms : Endometria
