Chlamydia trachomatis is the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection. The bacteria are easily transmitted and generally infect the genitals of men and women. About 50% of infected men and 70% of infected women have no symptoms at all. Women may notice an unusual vaginal discharge, pain when passing urine, and/or bleeding between periods or after sex. Men may notice a white/cloudy and watery discharge from the tip of the penis and pain when passing urine.
