An accident or trauma that causes injury to the brain. Acquired Brain Injury can also be called a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and it may be caused by penetrating injuries, such as in a car accident, or a Closed Head Injury (CBI) when the brain is damaged but there is no outward sign of trauma. The nature of the speech and language disorder depends on the type and extent of the injury.
