| trigeminal |
L. trigerninus, three-fold. Trigeminal nerve has three divisions. It was described by Fallopius and again by Meckel in 1748. The name trigerninal was given by Winslow on account of its three divisions.

| trigeminal |
Secondary trigeminal fibers (dorsal and ventral trigeminothalamic tracts) both crossed and uncrossed that arise from the trigeminal sensory nuclei. The brainstem pathway conveys pain, thermal, tactile sense as well as pressure and kinesthesis from the face, forehead, teeth, palate, joint capsules, and musous membranes of the nose and mouth to mainly the ventral posteromedial nucleus of the thalamus.
