toxoplasmic m. the meningoencephalitis that sometimes occurs in toxoplasmosis, characterized by seizures and mental confusion followed by coma. Pathologically, the brain may contain cysts and necrotic areas, with occasional hydrocephalus caused by blockage of aqueducts by sloughed material. It is often fatal if untreated. A sharply increased rate of infections, which may be recurrent, is seen in immunocompromised patients. Called also toxoplasmic encephalitis or encephalomyelitis.
