As lumber, expressed in quarters of an inch. 4/4=1", 5/4=1 1/4", 8/4=2", etc. When surfaced two sides 4/4 must yield at least 13/16", 5/4 yield is 1 1/16", 8/4 yield is 1 3/4", etc.
