| syphilid |
one of the skin lesions of secondary syphilis, appearing six weeks to two years after infection in a series of crops lasting a few days to months, and becoming more severe, conspicuous, and persistent, and less widely generalized, in successive outbreaks. Mucous membrane lesions in this stage are typically teeming with Treponema pallidum and are clinically the most contagious lesions of the disease. Syphilids may be described by their shape (annular s., macular s., papular s.), location (palmar s., plantar s.), and so on.
